The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to offer the Sober Event Monitor Training. This program focuses on creating and maintaining a social environment that supports healthy decision making and encourages bystander action.
Hosting social events with alcohol is a privilege granted to student organizations by Tulane University. The Alcohol Policy requires student organizations that wish to host events with alcohol to have Sober Event Monitors in place during their event. The Sober Event Monitor training helps students make sound choices when faced with difficult decisions about alcohol use. The training is an interactive, discussion-based program facilitated by a trained Sober Event Monitor facilitator.
The Sober Event Monitor training does not qualify any student/faculty or staff to serve drinks or check state issued IDs during a Tulane related event. You are eligible to serve as a Sober Event Monitor if all of the following conditions are met:
We recommend scheduling your training well in advance of your event if possible, as availability may be limited at each training. Sober Event Monitor training will certify you for two academic years.
Sober Event Monitor trainings are offered each semester and posted on the OrgSync calendar.
Registration Required. To register please log into OrgSync and RSVP for the training as listed on the calendar.
Please remember you need to be 21 or over to serve as a Sober Event Monitor. For questions about Sober Event Monitors at Tulane, please email Mark Knapp at firstname.lastname@example.org.
