The Office of Substance Abuse and Recovery (OSAR)


The Office of Substance Abuse and Recovery (OSAR) provides assessment, treatment, outreach, and recovery services for Tulane University students. OSAR focuses on helping individuals recognize, define and be responsible for substance use by using a personalized, holistic, and nonjudgmental approach.

Consultation Session

First appointment for students to discuss presenting concerns and to receive information about assessment and treatment processes (30 minutes).

Substance Use Assessment

  • Assessment Session 1: Students will complete the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI-4) and Patient Interview (90 minutes).
  • Assessment Session 2: Provider will review the SASSI-4 results with student and make treatment recommendations.(60 minutes).

Time-Limited Psychotherapy

If short-term psychotherapy is determined to be the appropriate treatment, the student will have up to 12 sessions available.


OSAR can provide referrals to appropriate services both on campus and off campus.
