Financial Policy & Student Responsibility

Beginning August 27, 2017, Tulane University’s Health Center for Student Care will begin billing insurance companies on behalf of students for services students receive at The Health Center. This is an effort to reduce the out-of-pocket expenses for students and their parents. The Health Center will submit claims to the student’s primary insurance on the student’s behalf. Students will still be responsible for paying their co-pay, co-insurance or deductible, as required by their insurance, at the time of each visit.

Payment at time of service

All visits at The Health Center will require the collection of co-pays, co-insurances, or deductibles at the time of each visit. The Health Center will accept credit card payment or can bill your charges to Accounts Receivable.  All unpaid charges will be automatically transmitted to Accounts Receivable.

Insurance plans

The Health Center participates in the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan, provided by UnitedHealthcare StudentResources. We do not participate in Medicare, Medicaid or Tricare.

We will file for any charges incurred with your primary insurance carrier. If we are not considered “in-network” or your annual deductible has not been met, it is possible that your insurance will not pay for your charges.

We will also provide you with copies of all relevant paperwork needed to resolve any payment issues with your insurance carrier. We will wait an appropriate time period from the date of filing the claim to receive payment. If the charges are denied or are unpaid, we will transfer the balance to student account. We will not enter into a dispute with your health insurance company over your claim; this is your responsibility and obligation.

Registration and financial information

To submit claims on your behalf, you must provide us with your current health insurance cards or completed claim forms. A financial policy statement similar to the above information must be read and signed by each student prior to their first visit to Campus Health, once per academic year.

Students must bring their Tulane ID, a form of payment, and a current insurance card to each visit. It is your responsibility to inform us in a timely manner of any changes to your billing/insurance information.
