How to Use Safer Sex Supplies

The Well for Health Promotion knows that safer sex is better sex. Below you can find instructions and tips for using dental dams, external condoms, internal condoms, and a variety of other safer sex supplies!

How do I use...

Dental Dams

A dental dam is a thin, flexible piece of latex that protects against direct mouth-to-genital or mouth-to-anus contact during oral sex. This reduces your risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) while still allowing for clitoral or anal stimulation.

To learn how to use a dental dam, watch the video below:

No dental dam? No problem! Watch the video to learn how to make your own dental dam at home or follow the instruction below.

External Condoms

Condoms are thin, stretchy pouches that can be worn on a penis or sex toy during sex. Condoms provide great protection from both pregnancy and STIs, including HIV. They’re easy to use and easy to get.

To learn how to use an external condom, watch the video below:

Internal Condoms

A female condom is worn inside the vagina or anus to create a barrier to stop bodily fluids and semen from entering the body. They are made from a soft plastic material called nitrile and are latex-free. When used correctly, internal condoms provide excellent protection against HIV, pregnancy and most STIs.

To learn how to use an internal condom, watch the video below:

Lubricant

Lube (or personal lubricant) reduces friction during sex (of all kinds) to make it comfier, safer and more enjoyable. Some lubes are gels, others are liquids, and some are creams! You don’t necessarily have to use lube for sex, but some people find sex uncomfortable without it.

To learn about the different types of lubes that exist and how to integrate them into your sex life, watch the video below.
