Tulane University students and their dependents have access to voluntary dental and vision insurance through MetLife and Superior Vision by MetLife. These plans are available to all students, regardless of whether they are enrolled in the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP).
Why Enroll in a Vision or Dental Plan?
Vision and dental care are important parts of overall wellness, but they are not included in standard medical insurance. These optional plans offer affordable coverage and nationwide access to providers.
- Dental plan includes preventive care (cleanings and x-rays) at 100% coverage, plus benefits for fillings, root canals, oral surgery, and more.
- Vision plan includes a $10 eye exam and $150 toward glasses or contacts, plus a wide provider network including Warby Parker, Target Optical, and online retailers.
Enrollment and Coverage Dates
- Fall Open Enrollment: July 1 – October 31, 2025
- Spring Open Enrollment: January 1 – March 31, 2026
- Coverage Period: August 1, 2025 – July 31, 2026 (12-month plan)
You must enroll during an open enrollment period unless you qualify for a special enrollment period due to a life event. Eligibility is based on the plan start date, not the date of enrollment.
