International Student Health Insurance Exemption

Degree-seeking international students are generally required to purchase the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP). However, on a case-by-case basis, international students may be considered for an exemption to this requirement when covered by a U.S.-based group health insurance plan (for example, a U.S.-based, employer-sponsored, ACA-compliant group plan).

To request an exemption, an international student must first provide documentation they are covered by a U.S.-based group health insurance plan as described in example above. In addition, the plan must then meet all Tulane University insurance requirements

To request an exemption, please contact us via the Let’s talk application. All requests are considered though no approval is guaranteed. All determinations regarding exemptions are made by the Campus Health Insurance and Enrollment Office and shall be considered final.
