Immunization Compliance Frequently Asked Questions

I don't know which immunizations I'm missing. Where can I find this information?

The Patient Portal will display a list of immunizations that you are missing. Visit our How to Check Your Immunization Compliance Status page under the heading Non Compliant – How to See Missing Requirements to see specific instructions on how to navigate to your list of missing immunizations.

I have a health hold on Gibson, and I am not sure why. What should I do?

If your registration hold is related to immunization compliance it will say Hlth Immunizations Reg Hold. This hold is for the classic immunization requirements that have been in place since before the pandemic. These include the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR vaccine), the tetanus vaccine (Tdap preferred), the meningococcal vaccine, and tuberculosis screening or testing. If you have this hold, it means you are missing one or more of these requirements. To find out specifically which of these immunization(s) you are missing, see the previous FAQ above: I don’t know which immunizations I’m missing. Where can I find this information? Once you determine which immunization(s) you are missing, either receive the missing vaccine(s) and submit documentation or fill out immunization waiver(s) for the missing vaccine(s) via the Patient Portal.

I'm receiving an error message when attempting to upload my immunization documents. What should I do?

First, make sure your file name includes no spaces or special characters (e.g. - \, /, @, etc.). Also, make sure your file is smaller than 4 MB and is either a PDF, JPG or PNG. If you’ve already verified that your file meets these requirements, and you’re still receiving an error message, please email campushealth@tulane.edu for assistance.

I received one or more of my vaccines through Tulane. Do I need to upload those records to the Patient Portal?

No. If you received your COVID-19 vaccine through the Tulane COVID Vaccination Clinic or received any other required immunizations through the Health Center for Student Care, your records will automatically be transferred into your Patient Portal and no further action is required on your part.

I'm having trouble logging into my Patient Portal. What should I do?

First, make sure you are using your Tulane credentials (the same username and password that you use to access Gibson and your Tulane email account). If you are sure you’re using the correct credentials, and you’re still having issues, please email campushealth@tulane.edu for assistance.

I'm a student who has not been assessed the Campus Health Fee (ex: part-time, SoPA, etc.), but I am missing required immunizations. May I visit the Student Health Center to receive required vaccines and/or TB screening without having to pay the fee?

Yes. While Tulane students who have not been assessed the Campus Health Fee are generally asked to pay the fee before receiving services at the Student Health Center, this is the exception. You may utilize the Student Health Center for the purpose of fulfilling mandatory pre-matriculation vaccine requirements without being assessed the Campus Health Fee. However, you must communicate your visit purpose to our staff when requesting the vaccine appointment and during the visit itself. While you won't be assessed the Campus Health Fee, your visit will still be subject to our standard billing procedures, which means a claim will be submitted to your insurance, and you will be responsible for any costs not covered by your plan. If you request any additional vaccinations beyond those required by the university, you will be assessed the Campus Health Fee. Students are reminded that they can receive required vaccines outside of Campus Health and provide proof of documentation via the Patient Portal.

I'm an international student. Some of the mandatory immunizations I need to receive before coming to Tulane are unavailable in my home country. Will I be in trouble if I don't receive them before arriving in New Orleans?

No. While we recommend that students receive all required vaccines before arriving on campus when possible, we understand this may be challenging for international students. If you are unable to obtain any of the required immunizations before you arrive in the U.S., you may receive them at the Health Center once you are here. Please make an appointment with us promptly after your arrival in New Orleans to finish fulfilling these requirements.
