A new virtual mental health care option for online students

We at Campus Health understand that being part of the Tulane community while studying remotely can present unique challenges. Even though you're not on campus to see one of our staff therapists in person, your mental health is important to us.

That’s why we’re excited to offer you a new option with Mental Health Complete (MHC), a flexible, virtual platform designed to support you with therapy, coaching, psychiatry, and self-guided tools, available wherever you are. Whether you’re facing stress, anxiety, sleep challenges, or need support for other mental health concerns, MHC is here to help — at your convenience.

Typically, online students are not required to pay the Campus Health Fee, which is automatically assessed to most in-person students. We are now offering you the option to opt in to the Campus Health Fee to access MHC. This fee is $416 per semester (fall and spring) and will provide access to MHC for the current semester only. The fee will not automatically renew. To continue access in future semesters, you will be asked to submit the opt-in form again each semester before any disruption of your care with MHC.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can Mental Health Complete help me?

You can use Mental Health Complete to schedule a visit or use digital courses and online tools to help manage stress, anxiety, sleep and more. The platform is available 7 days per week from the privacy of your own space.

Who can use Mental Health Complete?

All enrolled Tulane students who currently pay the Campus Health Fee and reside in the United States have access to Mental Health Complete. Students can schedule sessions from wherever they are in the United States. Mental Health Complete does not replace existing resources for students who are studying or traveling overseas, since its clinicians are licensed only in the United States.

Can I still see a mental health counselor through CAPS if I use Mental Health Complete?

Students should not seek licensed therapy or psychiatry from both Teladoc Health’s Mental Health Complete and Tulane Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) at the same time. You should see a counselor through the service that you feel most comfortable with but not both. You may still access digital self-guided content and coaching care on the Mental Health Complete platform regardless of your CAPS therapy/psychiatry relationship. Please note that CAPS services are not available to students who live outside of Louisiana. If you have questions about this policy, please call CAPS at 504-314-2277.

What type of digital content is available?

Your content library includes lessons, videos, guided meditations and activities. They cover a wide range of emotional and mental health topics such as stress, anxiety, sleep issues, and grief.

What type of coaching do I have access to?

The type of mental health coaching you're offered depends on your mental health assessment. You'll have access to a combination of text-based coaching sessions and one-on-one video sessions.

How long are the coaching and therapy visits?

Mental health coaching sessions last about 30 minutes. Therapy visits are typically 45 to 60 minutes.

Should I talk to a certified mental health coach, a therapist or a psychiatrist?

Each of these mental health professionals provide a different level of service. Here is a breakdown of what each of them can do for you:

Mental health coaches:

  • Focus more on the challenges you face in the present moment
  • Meet with you for a set number of weeks

Therapists:

  • Dive deep into many areas and times of your life--past and present
  • Meet with you for as long as you need

Psychiatrists:

  • Can prescribe medications to help manage mental health conditions
  • Meet with you for as long as you need

Can I use Mental Health Complete to obtain prescriptions for controlled substances like ADHD stimulants?

No. Mental Health Complete providers cannot prescribe DEA-controlled substances, non-therapeutic drugs, or other high-risk medications (such as ADHD stimulants) due to their potential for abuse.

How do I get started?

Students must register by web browser (computer or mobile) using their tulane.edu email address for verification. You’ll then get a chance to complete your wellness assessment and access the platform. The service can be accessed by app after web registration and account creation is complete.

Can Mental Health Complete providers see my CAPS care records, or can CAPS providers see my records in Mental Health Complete?

CAPS providers do not share treatment records with Mental Health Complete providers, but CAPS staff members will have access to student engagement data within the Mental Health Complete platform. In certain situations when care coordination is required, CAPS providers may access care records from Mental Health Complete. Please note that CAPS services are not available for students who live outside of Louisiana.

Is there any cost associated with using Mental Health Complete?

For students who are not automatically assessed the Campus Health Fee of $416 per semester, you will need to opt in to this fee.
