Referral Coordination

The Health Center provides Tulane students with the information and resources they need to access specialist care (ex: allergist, orthopedics, OB/GYN, dermatologists, endocrinologists, cardiologists, etc.) in the New Orleans community. If you need a referral to a specialist, we welcome you to make an appointment to discuss your needs with a Health Center provider.

Referrals and Insurance

Students with T-SHIP

In most cases, students with the Tulane-sponsored Health Insurance Plan who are seeking a referral must visit a provider at the Health Center for assistance prior to receiving care in the community. There are some exceptions to this. For more information, visit our Insurance Frequently Asked Questions page under the topic When is a Health Center referral not necessary?

Students with Third-Party Insurance

Students with third-party health insurance who are seeking a referral are encouraged to make an appointment with a Health Center provider to discuss their unique needs. This will ensure that they are referred to the proper specialist.
