The Campus Health Pharmacy will be CLOSED all week from Monday, November 4 through Friday, November 8. If you have any questions concerning your prescriptions, please email campushealth@tulane.edu. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Flu Prevention

The best way to prevent the flu is to receive the flu vaccine every season.

Tulane students are strongly encouraged to receive a flu vaccine and submit documentation each flu season.

Flu Shots for Students

The flu vaccine is made available each fall to all enrolled students, first through the annual Campus Health flu outreach campaign, and second by appointment at the Health Center.

Flu shots are billed to your insurance.

How to Download Proof of Your Flu Vaccine

If you received your flu shot via Campus Health, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Patient Portal.
  2. Click the Immunization tab.
  3. Click the green Print button.

This will generate a PDF report of your immunization records, which should include your recent flu vaccine.

Flu Outreach Campaign

You can schedule a flu shot appointment at one of the clinics listed below through the Patient Portal. Walk-ups will be accepted, but appointments are strongly preferred and encouraged. To save time and to make the lines move more quickly, we ask that you complete the online consent form and upload a copy of your insurance card via the Patient Portal before arriving at your appointment. When you arrive, please bring your Splash ID, insurance card, and wear a shirt that allows for the sleeve to be rolled up.

Flu Shot Appointments

If you’re unable to attend our outreach events, flu shot appointments will be available at the Student Health Center Downtown beginning on Sept. 30 and the Student Health Center Uptown beginning on Nov. 4. To make a flu shot appointment at one of our health center locations, call 504-865-5255. Please bring your Splash ID, insurance card, and wear a shirt that allows for the sleeve to be rolled up. If you’ve never visited the Health Center before, please fill out your patient forms and upload a copy of your insurance card to the Patient Portal before arriving. Additionally, many local pharmacies, retail outlets, and health systems offer vaccines at low or no charge to you.

Billing for Flu Shots

Flu shots are billed to your insurance and may require a co-pay or additional fees. Insurance plans typically cover one free flu shot per year; however, some insurance plans only cover vaccines given by your doctor at a specific set of locations. Please check with your insurance plan to see if your flu shot is covered at the Health Center. No payment is required at the time of your visit for flu shots.

Flu Shots for Faculty and Staff

Campus Health does not provide flu shots for Tulane faculty and staff. However, Tulane Living Well will hold a series of free flu shot clinics that are open to all employees of Tulane University. No appointment is necessary to get a flu shot, but employees are highly encouraged to arrive with a completed flu consent form to help expedite their visit. Flu vaccines are a covered benefit and there are no out-of-pocket expenses for employees. Employees are asked to bring their Splash ID cards to the flu clinic.

For more information or to ask questions, please contact tlwocchealth@tulane.edu.

Some of Tulane Living Well's employee flu shot clinics will take place in the same space as Campus Health's student flu shot clinics. There will be clear signage at the events, indicating which tables are for students versus employees.

Tips for Fighting the Flu, COVID-19 and Other Illnesses

  1. Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

  2. Stay home when you are sick.
If possible, stay home from class, work, and social activities when you are sick. Prevent spreading your illness to others.

  3. Cover your mouth and nose.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and wear a mask in public.

  4. Clean your hands.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

  5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs are often spread when you touch something that is contaminated with germs and then touch your eyes, nose or mouth.

  6. Practice other good health habits.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces in your room, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
