The State of Louisiana and Tulane University require students to have proof of immunity for certain diseases. All students taking classes in person at Tulane University are required to provide proof of immunization compliance (meeting CDC and American College Health Association guidelines) prior to arriving at Tulane.
Tulane must have evidence of a student’s compliance with the state guidelines for immunizations. Failure to meet these requirements will result in a registration hold being placed on your student account, which will bar you from dropping or adding classes.
For new students, achieving immunization compliance includes four steps. Steps 1 and 2 are required. Steps 3 and 4 are strongly encouraged.
The Tulane Immunization Form documents that the student has received the following:
- Measles, mumps, rubella vaccine (MMR)
- Tetanus vaccine (Tdap preferred)
- Meningococcal ACYW vaccine
The student's health care provider will complete and sign the Tulane Immunization Form. Completed signed forms must be uploaded to the Patient Portal. Faxes and emails are not accepted.
How to complete the Tulane Immunization Form
The form serves as a guideline for students to gather all immunization records in one step. However, using the form is not mandatory. As an alternative to using this form, you can submit proof of these vaccinations from your external healthcare provider by uploading them to the Patient Portal.
Step 2 (required): Complete tuberculosis screening and/or testing.
You must complete the Individual TB Risk Assessment via the Patient Portal in the Forms section. Based on your responses, this questionnaire will provide you with further instructions, if necessary.
If applicable, a Tuberculosis Screening Test (IGRA or TST) should be done within 6 months prior to your enrollment date. T-spot IGRA Tuberculosis blood tests are only accepted if performed in the U.S.
Tulane students are strongly encouraged to submit a record of having received a COVID-19 vaccine and any additional boosters. If you receive the vaccine and/or booster(s) via an entity outside of Tulane, please submit documentation through the Patient Portal. If you receive the vaccine and/or booster(s) via the Tulane Vaccine Clinic, you do not need to upload records to the Patient Portal because they will be automatically entered for you.
Step 4 (strongly encouraged): Provide proof of receipt of the flu vaccine.
Tulane students are strongly encouraged to receive a flu vaccine and submit documentation each flu season. If you receive the vaccine via an entity outside of Tulane, please submit documentation through the Patient Portal. If you receive the vaccine via Campus Health’s annual flu shot clinics, you do not need to upload records to the Patient Portal because they will be automatically entered for you.
Clearing registration holds
If you fail to meet any of the immunization requirements, a registration hold will be placed on your student account, and you must complete the missing requirement before the hold can be cleared.
To find out whether you have a registration hold, log in to the Tulane University Class Schedule. An alert will appear if you have any registration holds, as shown in the video below.
If your registration hold is related to immunization compliance, it will say Hlth Immunizations Reg Hold. If you have this hold, determine which requirement(s) you are missing by reviewing your immunization records on the Patient Portal. To print your immunization records:
- Log in to the Patient Portal.
- Click the Immunizations tab.
- Click View your immunization history.
- Click the green box that says Print.
Once you've determined which requirement(s) you're missing, follow the appropriate instructions listed on this page to receive the vaccine(s) and submit documentation to Campus Health. If you have any questions or concerns, please email immunizations@tulane.edu.
