The Well for Health Promotion fulfills requests from members of the Tulane community for workshops, printed materials, and safer sex supplies. Only requests from verified Tulane email addresses will be answered.

Workshop Requests and Sign Ups

Please allow two business days for a response to your workshop request. Additionally, due to the amount of preparation needed, we need two weeks to fulfill your request. Therefore, please provide a workshop date that is at least two weeks in the future. We ask that all workshops have a minimum of 10 attendees.

The Well for Health Promotion Information Table

The Well for Health Promotion's professional staff can provide information tables at events to cover a variety of health topics and services provided by our office. The subjects we cover include: alcohol and other drugs, mental health, sexual health, sexual violence prevention, and sleep hygiene. We can provide information and resources around each of these topics or focus on one in particular.

Peer-Educator Led Workshops

The Buzz

Originally developed at the University of Arizona’s Campus Health Services, The Buzz is an alcohol education presentation that uses interactive activities and myth busting facts to facilitate a conversation about alcohol use on college campuses. This presentation involves trivia and a wide variety of games to provide useful information about alcohol in a playful and relaxed manner. Presented by TUPHEs; available virtually and in-person.

The Consent Conversation

A critical element of consensual sex is communication. This workshop addresses the multi-facets of consent, including: what consensual language can look like, how to negotiate personal desires and preferences, how to respond to rejection, and how alcohol and other substance use impact sexual decision-making. Presented by SAPHEs; available virtually and in-person.

Narco Knowledge 

A 50 minute presentation about illegal drugs, misuse of Rx drugs, and mixing alcohol and drugs. Discussion points include alcohol and drugs; harmful combinations; non-medical use of prescriptions. Presented by TUPHEs; available virtually and in-person.

Prioritize YOU! A Self-Care Workshop

Learn about self-care strategies and stress reduction. Discussion points include: specific reasons why we get stressed, tips for sleep promotion, stress management strategies, and information about supportive campus resources. Participants will practice self-care techniques including diaphragmatic breathing, environmental stress management techniques, and will create their own self-care bag. Presented by TUPHEs; available virtually and in-person.

One Wave Workshop

One Wave workshops are one-hour peer-led conversations that provide foundational knowledge and skills on how each of us can help keep our peers and communities safe from sexual violence. After this training you will be able to recognize potential moments of harm, acknowledge barriers that stop us from acting, and identify realistic ways to intervene. Any size group is welcome. Presented by TUPHEs.

Fueling the Wave Workshop

Fueling the Wave is a 50-minute presentation on the importance of nutrition, eating disorder prevention, and intuitive eating as a college students. Includes a nutritious snack demonstration and highlights available campus resources. Presented by TUPHEs; available virtually and in-person.

Understanding Sexual Violence 101

Understanding Sexual Violence 101 is a workshop focused on providing participants with basic information about sexual violence and it's impact on our campus. The workshop includes definitions, statistics, and facts that challenge common myths about sexual violence. Presented by SAPHEs; available virtually and in-person.

Supporting Survivors

Supporting Survivors is a workshop focused on understanding the impact of sexual violence on a community and on an individual. It explains how to support survivors through skills including empathetic listening and affirming language. Presented by SAPHEs; available virtually and in-person.

Un(Healthy) Relationships

Un(Healthy) Relationships is a workshop focused on establishing the differences between healthy, unhealthy and abusive relationships. The workshop includes activities that allow participants to define commonly misunderstood terms, practice healthy communication, and identify potential red flags in relationships. Presented by SAPHEs; available virtually and in-person.

Balanced Nutrition – Pack your Plate

This is a general nutrition education lecture focused on teaching the basic principles of nutrition. Learn how to create a balanced plate on or off campus that supports your lifestyle and individual needs. Presented by the Campus Health Registered Dietitian. Session length and number of participants is flexible.

Calm Your Waves

Mindfulness is an established practice proven to decrease stress and anxiety, while enhancing a sense of well-being. In this one-hour workshop attendees will learn the fundamentals of mindfulness, be guided through exercises, and discuss realistic strategies to bring mindfulness into their daily lives. Less than 20 participants; presented by professional staff; quiet and closed off location required

Healthy Relationships 101

Healthy Relationships 101 focuses on how to develop positive and healthy relationships with others. This 50-minute workshop contains interactive activities that encourage Tulane students to discuss what a healthy relationship means to them and develop the key skills needed to build them. In this session we will talk about power-based personal violence, identifying red flags, how to help a friend, and where to get help on and off campus. Presented by professional staff.

Introduction to Health at Every Size

Learn about this weight-inclusive, holistic health paradigm that promotes self-care practices to support your whole being. Learn how to honor and understand your body’s unique needs and make meaningful changes in health behaviors without fixation on weight. Presented by the Campus Health Registered Dietitian. Session length and number of participants is flexible.

Invest in Rest

Invest in Rest is a one-hour sleep workshop intended to educate students on common sleep myths, the importance of sleep, and techniques to better sleep hygiene. After this training participants will be able to identify factors to good sleep hygiene, recall habits that inhibit sleep quality, and recognize warning signs of sleep difficulties. Any size group is welcome. Presented by professional staff.

Medical Sex, Gender, and Sexual Orientation

Curious about the difference between sex, gender, and sexual orientation? Not quite sure how physical anatomy relates to these categories? This 50-minute workshop gives a basic overview of the difference between the categories of identity that make each of us unique: our sex, gender, and sexual orientation. It also gives participants a chance to reflect on their own identities and how these identities effect their daily lives. Presented by professional staff; available virtually and in-person.

Nutrition

The dietitian is able to present on general nutrition topics or those that apply more specifically to your group.

For reference, here is an example of a past presentation topic:
Nutrition for College Students - Forget the Freshman 15: Learn about why it is important for our minds and bodies to take the focus off dreading the “freshman 15” and work towards a healthier relationship with food and our bodies. This presentation also incorporates principals of Intuitive Eating and covers basic information about eating concerns.

Risky Business

This small-group, one-hour interactive workshop is meant to facilitate a conversation about group norms related to alcohol and other health behavior. Based on real-time responses, participants engage in a conversation based on what members want from their experience and how members can support one another.  Less than 65 participants; presented by professional staff

Safer Sex Methods

Many of us never received the sex education that we deserve. This 50-minute workshop is designed to fill in that gap by addressing the information, attitudes, and skills necessary for practicing safer sex and maintaining sexual wellness. This workshop will cover methods of STI and pregnancy prevention, emergency contraception, and abortion. Presented by professional staff; available virtually and in-person.

Sexual & Reproductive Anatomy

Never learned the names for what’s down there? Not quite sure how your or your partners’ anatomy work? This 50-minute workshop gives insight to the incredible diversity of sexual and reproductive anatomy that exist amongst us. Participants will not just learn the names and functions of anatomy but also their roles in personal sexual health and pleasure. Presented by professional staff; available virtually and in-person.

Sports Nutrition Basics

This is a presentation designed for student athletes. We will cover nutrition recommendations pre and post workouts and ways to fuel your body for a successful season. Eating concerns for athletes is also covered in this lecture. Presented by the Campus Health Registered Dietitian. Session length and number of participants is flexible.

STIs, Testing, and Prevention

Many of us never received the sex education that we deserve and as a result, we still have questions about elements of sexual health.This 50-minute workshop will cover the basics of STIs, information about testing, and tips for preventing STIs. It will also provide participants opportunities to practice having challenging conversation about sexual health with partners. Presented by professional staff; available virtually and in-person.

 

Posters and Materials Requests

The Well fulfills requests for health promotion bulletin boards/posters and safer sex supplies via our materials request form. Requests require 48 to 72 business hours to process. After you submit your request, you will receive an email letting you know when the materials are ready for pick up. If you do not hear from us, please call 504-314-7400.

Please note that orders are not processed during holidays, weekends, or any time the University is closed. Materials are provided for Tulane students and are not available for other uses.
