What is Body Respect Week?

Body RespectWeek (BRW), taking place November 3–7, 2025,will bring the Tulane community a series of health events that are body-positive, identity-inclusive, and culturally specific. Programming is grounded in the Body Respect framework by Lindo Bacon, with a focus on the Five Pillars of Body Respect.

The week’s goal is to help Tulane students shift from the pressure to “love your body” to a more accessible and sustainable practice of respecting their body. We recognize that language about bodies and health is often confusing or misleading, and this initiative aims to create clarity and empowerment through education.

Body Respect Week is part of the All-In initiative and promotes body autonomy informed decision-making and consent. It also challenges stigma around body diversity and the social norms that contribute to objectification, disrespect, and sexual violence. At its core, Body Respect Week is a call to extend the same respect to others that we hope to receive ourselves.

Who is Body Respect Week for?

Body RespectWeekis for Every Body. This initiative invites all students to take part in conversations about how we care for, relate to, and show up in our bodies. Its a chance to reflect on questions like: How has your body helped you navigate life? What can you do to better support your body and its needs? What might shift if you stopped seeing your body as the problem? Body RespectWeekencourages us to honor the bodies we havejust as they areand reclaim the respect we all deserve.

Five Pillars of Body Respect

  1. My body deserves to be fed.
  2. My body deserves to be treated with dignity.
  3. My body deserves to be dressed comfortably and in the manner I am accustomed to
  4. My body deserves to be touched affectionately and with respect
  5. My body deserves to move comfortably.
