How to Request T-SHIP Coverage

The Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP) is provided through United Healthcare Student Resources. To enroll, students must request coverage online through the Gallagher portal.

Paying for T-SHIP

Students are billed for T-SHIP premiums in the same way they are billed for tuition and other fees. The premium is applied to the student’s accounts receivable, and then the University pays the premium directly to the insurance company.

Health insurance compliance deadline and default enrollment

Students who are required to have health insurance and intend to enroll in T-SHIP are urged to do so by the compliance deadline. Students who fail to either enroll in T-SHIP or opt out of T-SHIP by the compliance deadline will be automatically enrolled in T-SHIP and will be responsible for paying the full premium. Please do not wait to be enrolled by default as this may result in paying out of pocket for medical services until coverage is active.

Please note that non-degree-seeking students, distance learning students, and School of Professional Advancement students will not be enrolled in T-SHIP by default. However, if they are enrolled in at least 3 credit hours, they may request coverage online through the Gallagher portal.

Who is eligible to enroll in T-SHIP?

All degree-seeking registered students, part-time registered students and distance learning students with at least 3 credit hours, dissertation, teaching assistants, professional and executive program students are eligible for T-SHIP. No student will be enrolled in T-SHIP until they have confirmed their registration with the registrar's office. If you are unsure of your eligibility, please contact the Insurance Enrollment and Verification Office via the Let's Talk portal.
