Faculty or staff members who have questions about how to recognize distressed students and intervene by providing support are welcome to contact CAPS for consultation. A faculty or staff member is often the first person to recognize when a student is in distress. However, they are not expected to provide personal counseling to the student(s).
Assisting a Student in Distress
If you are concerned about a student, we encourage you to:
- Assist them in making a same-day appointment with CAPS by calling 504-314-2277.
- Call the Tulane University Police Department at 504-865-5911 (uptown) or 504-988-5555 (downtown) if you are concerned that the student is in immediate danger
- Contact a SRSS Professional On-Call (24/7) at 504-920-9900, or file a report at tulane.edu/concerns, and someone from Student Affairs will assist.
- Facilitate a referral to other campus resources such as the Health Center, Case Management & Victim Support Services, or the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility.
