CAPS Communities

Facilitated by CAPS clinicians, Communities offer a welcoming space to connect with other Tulane students who may be navigating similar experiences. Community sessions are free and can be attended regardless of whether you are receiving individual therapy at CAPS or with an off-campus provider.

For more information about joining a CAPS community, please call CAPS at 504-314-2277 or visit our CAPS Communities FAQ page.

What are the top 5 benefits of CAPS communities?

  1. Connection and Belonging: CAPS Communities help students connect with others who share similar experiences, challenges, or goals. Being part of a supportive community can reduce feelings of isolation and remind you that you're not alone.
  2. Skill Development: Many Communities provide opportunities to learn and practice practical skills in a supportive, peer-based environment. Whether you're building coping strategies, improving communication, or exploring topics related to your well-being, you'll leave with tools you can use in everyday life.
  3. Enhanced Self-Awareness Through Shared Perspectives: Hearing how others think about and navigate similar experiences can help you better understand your own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Different perspectives can increase self-awareness and offer new ways of approaching challenges.
  4. Social Confidence: Communities provide a welcoming space to practice interacting with others and strengthening interpersonal skills. Participating can help students build confidence in expressing themselves, navigate social interactions more comfortably, and develop meaningful relationships.
  5. Hope and Encouragement: Seeing others make progress, overcome obstacles, and work toward their goals can be motivating. Communities foster an environment of mutual encouragement that reminds students that growth is possible, and that setbacks are a normal part of the process.
